Movie RockNRolla – need translation from English English to American English?
If you have seen the movie rock n rolla, please answer me this:

What does this mean:

"Hey Nancy!"
"ya?"
"Do you fancy bobby ova here?"
"Only if he’s a wanka!"

why would a girl like somebody only if he was a wanker?

"Hey Nancy!" – "Hello, Nancy!"
"ya?" – "What is it?"
"Do you fancy bobby ova here?" – "Do you have any sort of romantic interest in Bobby?"
"Only if he’s a wanka!" – "Only if he is not a nice fellow"

That is the basic translation from British English slang to intelligible American English, and English everywhere else for that matter.

And to answer your question: Young women have always been attracted to bad boys not because of their attitude as such, but because of the display of confidence, assertiveness and strength that many "nice guys" seem not to display openly – not at this age anyway. At the age of 40 they learn that bad men won’t treat them as well as the "real" nice men, lol.

Has Anyone Ever Done Business With PayLessMinisplit.com, It Seems they arent a Valid Corporation?
PayLessMinisplit.com has begun to do craigslist advertisements, they are selling Air Con Units and telling people they have a 6-year warranty on compressor & 3 Years on Parts- but i sell Air Con Mini Splits As Well and they Have a 5 year warranty on compressor and 1-Year on Parts, i just dont understand why they would lie to people. also i looked into florida corporations and it seems they arent a valid Florida Corporation- has anyone ever done business with them?

Never have, but there is no requirement that they be a corporation, they could be a sole ownership, a DBA, or other types of business entity.

From a marketing perspective they could choose to extend the warranty themselves (i.e. cover the extra time on their own or via a 3rd party insurance contract).

With that in mind, when it comes to things like that, I am wary of any company that advertises on free services without some kind of track history.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967)

IMDB rating: 7.70

Plot: Joey Drayton brings her fiance, Dr. John Prentice, home to sunny San Francisco to meet her affluent parents. Their liberal persuasions are now put to the test, for although the young man is an ideal choice (he’s highly and internationally respected in the medical field, and he’s impeccably mannered, handsome, well dressed and of a respectable California family), he’s black. The film, which covers one busy day in the Drayton home, is essentially a drawing-room comedy, a series of cross-conversations between the young doctor and the girl’s parents, and finally between all sets of parents and offspring. A simple dinner is extended to include the doctor’s parents, who fly up from Los Angeles for the evening, and the crusty but benevolent old Irish priest, a friend of the family. Thus, the title of the film . . .

Why Is My Ex Playing Mind Games?
My ex girlfriend started dating in November of 08. We fell for each other right away. I was more than your average boyfriend. I cooked, bought her dinner, bought her flowers, help her financially if she needed, and did all of the little things that mattered. We dated for almost six months. I was deeply in love, and she told me she was too. She has a bad past when it comes to guys, and because of that she was VERY insecure. I always assured her and swore I would never cheat or leave her. I planned on giving her a promise ring on our six month anniversary just to prove to her that I would stay true and commited until we were ready to be engaged. About 5 months into our relationship she ended meeting a new guy from her work and ended up cheating with him and left me for him. I was devastated. She said she was in love with him, too. Sorry, we all know that you can’t TRULY love two people in the same way. She said she still wanted me in her life and I told her I couldn’t do it. Their "relationship" didn’t last long at all. I’m assuming because she felt guilty. We didn’t talk for months. A few months ago I deleted her off of my facebook to begin taking her out of my life and moving on. About a week ago she messaged me and asked why I deleted her. I didn’t respond because I thought, "Why should I?" She sent me another message a few days later upset over the fact that I didn’t respond. She told me that she was sorry for hurting me. She told me that her new boyfriend at the time was doing the same thing to her. She said she still wanted to be friends. So I gave in. I told her how I felt about what she did, and I told her I would think about it. She said it was okay and told me she worried about me a lot and thought it would be nice if we went out for lunch. I thought about it for almost a week and messaged her back and said that I would give it a shot. She told me that she just wanted to be friends and didn’t want a relationship because of what she went through with her ex. I’m assuming she broke up with him. I told her that it was okay, and I told her I wasn’t ready for a relationship with anyone either. I told her to call me if she needed to talk, because she told me she was hurt. I didn’t get a message back. I sent her a text message tonight and told her that I would be here if she needed to talk and she never replied. Why is she doing this? Is she just playing mind games, or is she starting to play the hard to get game? I really thought I had women figured out.. I guess I was wrong. It’s been almost 10 months since our break up. I still do love her..what is she trying to say?

bottom line girls are crazy. jus dont trust em ever.
wardawg | Feb 05, 2010

If you still love her you shouldnt be trying to play the friend game , look your already hurt that she didnt didnt message you back ect. I think you should forget her or it will just lead to more hurt.
ollyf | Feb 05, 2010

Well,
Its not really nice to jus put ALL girls in the looney catagory. NOT ALL girls are crazy!
there are a few sane ones out there! and you CAN trust some of them.

with that said:
I think shes just confused with herself. some girls are stupid and think they love every guy they see.
Stupid, i know. but i think thats how shes feeling. jus try to get her out of your mind and try to attempt to move on. it might be hard, but its the best you can do right now since shes having WEIRD feelings.
she might not consciencely know shes playing headgames.
missycarmalita | Feb 05, 2010

Because she is using you. She probably originally started talking to you again because she was having problems with the person she is with. She is leading you on to keep you around because:
a) she is insecure and afraid of being alone
and b) she knows that you will do anything for her.

Don’t waste your time. She is not hinting that she WANTS you back, only that she wants to know she can GET you back if she has no one else or needs help. Deleting her from your Facebook showed her that you were moving on, so she did just enough to make sure she was still on your mind.

You sound sweet, if a little naive. Find yourself someone who can see THAT in you, rather than seeing you as meal ticket, so to speak.

Good luck.
SnA | Feb 05, 2010

I believe she is in fact, playing games with your head. I had the same situation, with a few minor differences obviously.. She would do things like say she would call me that night, and never did.. Only she did that all the time.. When I called her since she didn’t call me she wouldn’t answer.. It was so hard for me because I was in love with her more than I ever have in my life.. I still am in love with her in a way.. Nothing like it used to be but I will always love her. Trust me man, she is messing with your mind.. My advice is to cut your losses and get out of it as soon as you can bare it.. I know how much it sucks, and I truly feel bad for what you have to go through..
STEVEOKNIEVO | Feb 05, 2010

Seems like she’s confused man…I’m having the same problems with my ex girlfriend as well sometimes when she feels alone and has her feelings for me again she’ll be nice and loving…but on other days it’s like whatever and she doens’t care too much about conversation…we pretty much text everyday. We broke up in thanksgiving and I’ve been trying to make her understand that i’ll be there for her in anything…until she finds another man then that’ll be his job to take care of her. You did all you could for her as I did for my girlfriend I had bought her a promise ring…170 dollars for a kid who worked his summer at pizza hut. I put alot of effort into our relationship and she fucked me over. It seems like when woman have a guy at their feet they want to continue testing him just to see how much he really will do for her. I know how you feel that you want to rush back into seeing her just as a friend or maybe intamacy i want the same thing with my ex but she often blows me off to something else. My ex wont tell me every time whats on her mind even thought i persist in her telling me so i can try to help out. If she isn’t messaging you back the only thing to do is stop….don’t text anymore, don’t call you leave everything to her…you don’t try to act interested in setting up a date you just agree with her to meet and just say yes to talking to her but do not be all interested in the fact nor try to seem like your trying to move your schedule around to her…let her do the work. Because she’s feeling like shit you have to make yourself look better and make life seem great for you. Make her remember that guy who would do so much for her and she’ll realize how bad she fucked up. For us guys man it’s hard to know exactly what woman want…it’s like war of sexes and even though in our hearts we just want to make up and say lets be together again and forget everything, lets not let stupid things keep us from running back to each other….instead of that we have to submit ourselves to these games till one of us gives in. You let her do this to you man and it’s gonna wreck your life and your mind. I’m suffereing through this with my ex right now….I’m putting myself through this because I find no one else worth the pain as much as it causes me to be played by my ex….that’s how much i love her…am i closer to being with her…..no. But if you want a shot at anything you can’t give in to her making you wonder….you gotta forget and move on but be there for her without being there completely for her….if that makes sense. don’t let her play you and don’t play her. Just agree to meet, speak, or whatever friends can do for each other….you gotta maintain your cool…..it’s easier said than done because you just probably want to hold her again in your arms….but this is the bullshit we need to go through to get the ones we love back…..who made up these rules idk but it’s just bullshit….keep strong and i hope everything goes good for you….maybe she deserves a guy like you….maybe she doesn’t.

Hush
Hush (2009)

IMDB rating: 6.70

Plot: Tired and irritable, Zakes Abbott drives home along the motorway, his girlfriend, Beth, asleep beside him. Failing to spot his exit he speeds across the causeway, cutting up a white van and barely avoiding an accident. Apoplectic with rage, the truck driver gives chase, and as he violently overtakes the tailgate flips up revealing a woman bound and bloodied in the back. But before there is time for a second look, the door is slammed shut and Zakes is left bewildered and wondering if what he saw was real. Later at a service station, Zakes’ fears grow when Beth goes missing, and as he begins a frantic search, he is enticed into a deadly game of cat and mouse on the deserted motorway. But being the sole witness to the earlier scene, how does he convince others of his desperate need for help? Playing on our most primal fears, this taut suspense thriller challenges a world where we constantly turn responsibility over to someone else and asks the question: what do you do when there is no one else there?

Directors: Tonderai Mark

What is the meaning behind these lyrics…are they deep..do they reflect emotion at it purest form?
Sometimes I wanna cry and pray, sometimes
Sometimes I want Channel 8, sometimes
Sometimes I get drunk all god damn day
Sometimes I wanna go back around the way
Sometimes I wanna ride and smoke, sometimes
Sometimes I got money and I still feel broke

I cock and pop 3 in the air for my niggas not here
Locked it wit me, your legacy live on with me continuously
Tremendously I blow weed deep in my memory
You still breathe, your face show through your seeds
And who know it that you go so quick
We all felt hopeless, through blunt smoke
My pen spittin and I show this
I swore an oath you would notice
I go to lengths with my rap strengths
When I think about my past friends K-Rock and D-zo
Primo from the same block as me since we was shorties
The pain and project glory
I get touched it all absorb me like a weed head rush
Keepin the thorough for my passed he-ro, I must
All my peoples street and physical
I still see you featured in my heart sometimes it might wrinkle
Much drinkin when I’m thinkin, its like I feel a hush over the skies
Touched by dead guys speakin.

well obviously, these lyrics are a metaphor for the turmoil of the political parties in chile. Especially the allende family. Just like in her novel casa de los espiritus, whoever sings this feels the same sorrow as the little girl in the novel. These lyrics are extremely deep in that shorties is analogous to "porquerias" in allendes novel.

LGBT: Am I the only gay man in the universe..?
LGBT and BLT: Am I the only gay man in the universe who thinks Lady Gaga has talent?

http://assets.nydailynews.com/img/2010/0 1/16/alg_gaga.jpg

All my friends (such as they are, gay or not) mock me and tell me I’m crazy, but I think she’s magnificent. =D

I just wish Johnny Cash were still around because I think they could have made a lovely couple singing "Ghost Riders In The Sky".

So am I alone in my gayness and my flaming gay preferences? I’m not really flaming gay, but I am, however, as gay as a French tangelo.

Thank you,
Omega

Yes, I think she is a talentless scrub

Daniel | Feb 01, 2010

well, can you be more specific? she’s got different talents. Personally, I think her songs are hits because they are all according to one magic recipe [ther'es actually recipes for successful songs : think the BackStreet boys]. But a lot of her talent has to do with her entertainment value which includes her fashion, attitudes[song lyrics], …. everyone’s talking because she’s got the music too!
Kira | Feb 01, 2010

I am straight (Bi, don’t tell anyone lol)….but I think she is awesome…

I agree with you….she is hot and very talented…
Bored Lord | Feb 01, 2010

When she first came out, LOL, get it, came out, I mean came to get attention I looked for reasons not to like her. And I have to say the more I see of her the more I think she is a genius. She is new, over the top, and can hold a tune with the best of them. She is smart, a marketing wizard, and will take Madonna to task. Watching her on Barbara Walters cemented what I suspected, that she has a heart, is the real deal, and is a force to be reckoned with. Then last night on the Grammy Awards her thing with Elton John was good, subtle, gave him his moment and then took it right back with his blessing. How cool is that?

eeeeeee!!!!! saint omega ive missed you! you’ve been away from here far too long! its not been the same! *huggies* (not the diaper!) as for your question….well im not really a fan of lady gaga. her music style just isnt mine. but ive heard she can sing very well. but i cannot judge. although that one song that goes "ra ra ra ramaen soup ah ah bla bla ga ga ga oo la la" i dont really know how it goes, but that song got stuck in my head for a week when i heard it for the first time.

disappearhere | Feb 01, 2010

i have to say that when i first heard of lady gaga, i thought she was another weird attention whore. but actually, i found that her music is very exciting, naturally. yes, i am aware that some of her up beat songs’ lyrics dont make sense and they are hard to understand (and outrageous at times), but she is just trying to get a message out and "just dance" ..if you will :) one thing that completely changed my negative vision of her, though, was her song, "brown eyes". i personally cannot relate to this song, but her voice shines through in it. her real voice, her real personality. shes got soul. i think lady gaga is amazing :)
jen | Feb 01, 2010

I think she’s very talented, but she is pushing the edge of over-exposure. For example, last year, she was supposed to appear in Richmond, Virginia at a venue that held around 1000 people. It was in April. The venue went under, and they rescheduled it for later, at a venue that held 1500. By the time it rolled around in September, they moved it to one that held 5,000. By now she could sell out a large arena easily. That kind of explosion of fame risks fan burnout.

She seems to be managing it well so far.
uva guy | Feb 01, 2010

im the only bi guy who likes her lol

cm on she never mimes…sings and dances together….great eye catcher…..makes own music…writes own songs…designs own clothes…choreographs self …..and at the end still doesnt have that ego……and humorous…and has a heart

Well, I’m a bi guy and I think she has talent; I like her. She seems rather articulate as well. Anyway, don’t worry about stuff. I’m sure you’re not, so flame on buddy!

Hogfather
Hogfather (2006)

IMDB rating: 7.60

Plot: It’s Hogswatch (equivalent to Christmas) on the Discworld and the Hogfather has gone missing, requiring Death to take his place while his granddaughter Susan endeavors to find out what has happened.

Directors: Jean Vadim

Actors: Jason David,Warren Marc,Warner David,Robinson Tony,Planer Nigel,Guinness Peter,Marcus Stephen,Conway Craig,Meilir Rhodri,Richardson Ian,Richardson Ian,Pearson Neil,Drama,Fantasy,Thriller,

where does the word "hogfather" come from ?

Hogfather is the 20th Discworld novel by Terry Pratchett.

The Hogfather is also a character in the book, representing something akin to Father Christmas. He grants children’s wishes on Hogswatchnight (32nd of December) and brings them presents. He also features in other Discworld novels.

The book is about the nature of belief, in particular that people need to believe in small things there is no evidence for, such as Hogfathers and Tooth Fairies, in order to believe in larger things, such as Justice and Hope. As Pratchett says elsewhere, fantasy is an exercise bicycle for the mind; it doesn’t take you anywhere, but it tones up muscles that might.

Terry Pratchett book called the Hogfather
scragatag | Dec 29, 2007

It’s from the Terry Pratchett book "The Hogfather", where the Hogfather is that world’s equivalent of Santa Clause, only with pigs instead of reindeer. :)
vulpintissentiality | Dec 29, 2007

Terry Pratchett made it up for his book of the same name. It is based on Father Christmas obviously. Sky One dramatised it last year (and it’s excellent, as is the book, obviously).

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World
Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003)

IMDB rating: 7.50

Plot: During the Napoleonic Wars, a British frigate, HMS Surprise, and a much larger French warship, the Acheron, with greater fire power, stalk each other off of the coast of South America. Russell Crowe brings great intensity to the role of Captain Jack Aubrey. Lucky Jack, as he is referred to by his crew, is well regarded by his men, who trust him implicitly, even after the first devastating battle and an apparent personal vendetta against the French captain. While the naval battle sequences are quite fantastic, the film is successful because director Weir chose to build the story to get to know the men who are locked aboard the tight quarters of a small ship and how they interact everyday. The officers and the mates are well-known by the time the final battle comes. Paul Bettany offers a strong performance as the surgeon and naturalist who balances the violence of his chosen life with the quiet demeanor of the scientist. He is the captain’s friend and confidant, the two frequently playing violin and cello duets together. The horrors of the injuries from the war are frequently implied, but vividly depicted in the reactions of the characters.

Directors: Weir Peter

Actors: Crowe Russell,Bettany Paul,D’Arcy James,Woodall Edward,Larkin Chris,Pirkis Max,Randall Jack,Benitz Max,Ingleby Lee,Pates Richard,Pugh Robert,McCabe Richard,Mercer Ian,Dolan Tony,Threlfall David,History,Drama,War,Action,Adventure,

In the movie "Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World", what is the name of the last duet at the end?

I thought it might be an improvisation by the captain and the doctor, but then again, it may be a recognized piece of music and I would like to know the title.
It’s not "Fur Elise"; I’m sure of that!
Hey, thanks, aeroman, for the interesting video with the "Fur Elise" remake in it. But no, that’s not it.

i don’t know the movie, could be you’re talking of this piece

I think it’s string quintet in c major op. 30 no. 6 by Luigi Boccherini
pianistbri | Jun 30, 2007

That movie had a lot of different composers…they played the Bach cello suite to death, they ruined Mozart’s Violin Concerto, and I thought maybe Corelli was in there. But I agree with the guy above me. Boccherini.
treehugger | Jun 30, 2007

if you look on the soundtrack toward the end- it has listed: String Quintet (Quintettino) for 2 violins, viola & 2 cellos in C major ("La musica notturna delle strade di Madrid"), G. 324 (Op. 30
Composed by Luigi Boccherini

same as the above guy said-
ewsoprano | Jun 30, 2007

Although I have never seen the movie, I do know the CD fairly well. Are you sure you mean duet? The only piece I can think you might mean on the soundtrack is a Quintet piece.

La Boccherine la Musica Notturna Delle Strade Di Madrid No. 6, Op 30.

My friend actually bought the piece and a group of us are going to learn it for our senior concert.

I hope that’s what you’re looking for!
